The civic gang lifers are regrouping around the deep pile of bull. “If SHCA, UCHS, and FOCP ceased to exist, the earth would open up and the neighborhood would be pulled straight to hell.”
Not only is it false that, “the civic association leaders do more good than harm,” but it is a terrible but common mistake to believe that any positive activities would cease. The Spruce Hill May Fair; the FOCP, Bark in the Park; and other activities could flourish with tremendous new energy, if they became independent of these dangerous gangs in a post civic gang neighborhood. Our neighbors, who actually do the work for these activities, are generally not the gang leaders who stand around to take the credit. Popular community activities lose the tremendous talent and volunteer spirit that once existed in abundance here because activities are tangled up with these gangs, perceived as necessary umbrella groups. Like we’ve seen at FOCP, the vast majority of association members either pay the gang so that their children can play in youth soccer, or they give them money in TERROR at some “election” or “dog park vote” I think people are planning to reward SHCA leaders soon, because of fear and anger at their true colors flying high above Campus Inn. When you get out and talk to the people, you will see that they have great talents which they are willing to share even though they stay away from these gangs. And if you talk to people, who still believe that civic associations are necessary, most of the locals have numerous stories about how they were treated by or suffered because of the antics of these gang leaders. Example of new energy: If the members chose to disband the SHCA at or before the upcoming elections, I will happily give Mr. Behr and the leaders of the May Fair any assistance to become an independent entity. As a long term serious community volunteer, who would never ever help the SHCA and had my volunteerism destroyed by SHCA/FOCP, I would quickly bounce back in a post gang community! I know that other neighbors feel the same way. I also know that it is extremely easy to make the transition for any of these activities to become independent. The gang leaders can keep their little gangs without the activities, which we little people have always organized for the benefit of the community anyway. They can go sit by themselves, and bitch to their Penn masters at UCD headquarters! I will not be here for the SHCA elections, to gather signatures for termination of the association, BEFORE the election is conducted; but it is my opinion that now is the time for members to rise up and act! The members should know that the community would support them, if they ended the association! To reiterate, please don’t believe that any positive aspects trapped under the gang umbrella would cease to exist, and recognize that they could flourish tremendously in a free and strong community which we can restore!
