Below is some coverage of the latest attempt to destroy a community with a NID in the Chinatown area. City council attempted to defy the state NID creation law, even though residents heroically met the ridiculously high standard to reject a NID outright. It seems that city council, the mayor, Alan Greenberger, and Paul Levy apparently wanted an unaccountable hand picked board not even required to live in PA.

I'm very happy for our brothers and sisters in Chinatown, for now; but this latest push to privatize, gentrify, and defy the will of the people is an issue for all Philadelphians.

NIDS/BIDS are designed to divide the city, shifting governmental control to corporate "experts." All Philadelphians are taxed to secure "grants" for corporate NID projects, while destroying vital services for most neighborhoods. The NID areas are brutally gentrified by eradicating the poor, senior citizens, etc. through L&I, trash tickets, and various other enforcement or taxing agencies. And public spaces within the NID are privatized like city hall and Clark Park have been. Citizens of the lower economic classes can then be arrested as trespassers on formerly public spaces, like over 5000 brothers and sisters at occupations around the country have been arrested and brutalized. (Note: Control of public spaces are privatized eliminating citizen rights. Ownership of public space still resides with the taxpayers for the singular purpose of directing tax dollars to private cronies. That's the current model for eliminating public spaces.)

Don't believe for a second that either Chinatown or West Philly is safe from the NID threat! Just like Dilworth plaza and Clark Park, the plutocracy works secretly on multi-year master plans, while activists struggle to pay their various fines! We know that city council is ready to obey their masters and defy the will of the people, secretly and in the dead of night. (City Hall was rented for $1 to CCD on the winter solstice of 2010. The typical "Christmas surprise" tactic.)
