I havent done enough with it but I wonder if a bump map... do the furrows in greyscale in photpaint/shop and assign it to the default bump material in the library. Or maybe that is what you've been trying ... it all looked beyond me so I didnt follow the thread, sorry.

You're right, there's a max. displ. slider for sds nurbs meshes too. what a

Well some good has come from the day at least :-)

Thanks for trying, and to everyone else who replied. I've read the replies and studied the links but I'm still not getting anywhere. Another hour or two wasted so I'll go do something else.

You'll notice that the field is a big object, and the weirdness has something to do with displacement working in real units.

As to the density of the mesh, I still can't get to terms with this. I'll come back to it. Pity. I was so pleased with myself for getting the wavy furrows in the dirt so easily.

Thanks again to all. Will keep you updated.

To George: their's definately someting funny about you're projectfile, weird
things happening here too.

Frank Bueters

Nope. Displacement works with SDS too. You should up the density too something more than the bare minimum.

Hi George,

To the best of my knowledge displacement mapping works with nurbs meshes only. Replace the sds in your project file with a nurbs mesh and you'll be one happy gardner/farmer.
