So the project jar for xdoclet.codehaus.org is already built and
included in the ./lib/xdoclet-2.0.3.jar of the sourceforge
xdoclet-plugins-1.0.2 download? Works for me.
Ok. I went and managed to snag a maven-1.0.2 and install it. The
xdoclet build works fine. Thank you very much on both counts. Now to
convert some old sgen Velocity templates...

XD2 is a small core ( which is pretty stable ) , all
the work happens
in plugins ( which are separate project )
And as for now, we use maven-1 to build.
