Wavecom here,
its nothing to do with the CPU or kannel optimization.
the traffic rates depend on the mobile network.
here the average speed is 6-9 seconds per SMS, and if you request dlr reporting,
it will take up to 13-17 seconds per SMS

500 sms/sec per modem ... :) .. it should be ss7 modem, not GSM modem.
