Glad everything is OK now. Guess it really was a bad file after all the
first time! Enjoy OOo, and come back to the list at users@openoffice.org
if you have any more questions. There are always plenty of people to
help out.

I downloaded it again from the open office website. I didn't think it
would work, so I didn't turn off my anti virus or spyware. I was
wanting to get the exact error message to send you.
To my surprise, I was able to extract it and I now have open office on
my PC. The only glitch was when I went to put the exe program in the
recycle bin, I couldn't do it. It said I have to have permission. That
didn't sound right to me. I then open up my task manager and say the
exe program as not responding. I ended the task. Then I reopened open
office and it opened fine. Then I sent the exe to the recycle bin and
deleted it. On hind sight, I wish I would of saved it on a CD so I
could share it with some friends.
The program is working good now. Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Jeff

Hi, Jeff, sorry you are still having problems. Let's move this
discussion back to the list so that others can try to help you. Have
you tried another download? Also, there is a way to check the
downloaded file for accuracy using the md5sum capability. I haven't
had any experience with that, so hopefully somebody else will supply
the details about how to get this tool and how to find the MD5
checksum for the release you're trying to install.

Barbara,
I have done verything you suggested here. I still get the error
message that I could have a corupt file and it won't install from
the exe. download. I have a firefox browser that I use. So, when I
download it, the download box has open on the exe in it and it won't
open to install and says that the file is corrupt.

If you're still having trouble with the install, the "incomplete or
corrupted" issue is sometimes because your antivirus software is
complaining about a perfectly safe file. If you got the file from
www.openoffice.org (the official website -- careful, there are
others out there that may not be safe):
* After downloading the file, completely disconnect your computer
from the internet.
* Turn off the antivirus software.
* Double-click on the downloaded file and follow the
instructions in
the installation dialogs. You can generally just accept the
defaults, but you need to think about what application will be
the
default for opening MS Office filetypes (.doc, .xls, .ppt). You
can always change later, and both OpenOffice.org (OOo) and MS
Office can be used on the same computer. If your new computer
came
with Office 2007 trial software, be aware that the new default
formats for that (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) are not reliably readable
by any other applications; you should save in the old formats
with
Save As if you use Office, so your files will still be usable
after the trial period without buying Office.
* When installation is complete, turn the antivirus software
back on.
* Reconnect to the internet.
