It will work, however you may not get as firm of a feel since the silicone
based fluids have a tendency to be spongy feeling.  I am surprised that your
powder coated parts were damaged that easy.  Perhaps it was on a area that was
not prepped properly.  Who knows though, brake fluid is tough on anything.
