There were also some very uncommon ISA cards for
external floppy
drives on PCs, also using a 37pin connector. My bet is
Apple
simply bought those drives from a company that nade
them for the
PC market and designed their NuBus controller to use
them.

PC floppy drives use a 34pin connector, so a 37 pin
D-Sub would
be the closest fit. Hmmm, I wonder if anyone ever
tried
connecting a 720K drive to one of those NuBus cards>
