That Mazda sounds a little small and underpowered for my taste.
I've always liked and idea that some do-it-yourselfer did in Australia. Have a plug in all electric car with a range suitable for day to day use - say 50 miles. Have a suitable genset mounted on two wheels, that you hook on for when you want to go further. For most people this wouldn't be very often.
