Yea, I think you're right. The alternative would be to commit *all* of
the autotools stuff to CVS (generated configure script, Makefile.in etc)
but I prefer not to do that.

Yes, it did. I tried it, Lalo reported problems, so I backed out and went
with plan B.
On to Plan B: remove the libtool/aclocal stuff I added, instead hack the
configure script to check for mingw and apply a patch to ltmain.sh/libtool
to fix the bug in question.
Better.
Or just include ltmain.sh.MINGW and copy or link that to ltmain.sh in configure
if $host
happens to be mingw...
Now there's a test in the configure script which checks for mingw and
applies libtool.patch if so. Seems to work.
