Hi all,
I also noticed that pcmcia-cs was depreciated before 0.2 is released.
For newer 2.6 kernel, a new pcmcia util is needed. I think I would need
to move to Debian testing (etch) to minimize work on backporting the
packages. This will automatically add udev support as well.

I would be very interested to hear on it comes out for your friend. I tried
for some time to do a kernel rebuild to get an Aircard 750 PCMCIA modem
running, and did not have a great deal of luck (at least not yet). Part of
the issue was serial_cs, but there are some other items regarding PCMCIA
devices that changed (broke?) around 2.6.13, and remain somewhat
problematic, from what I can tell, with certain serial PCMCIA modem cards,
since the pcmcia-cs package is depreciated. Mostly they seem to related to
the firmware auto-loading toolset changing, from what I could tell. The new
stuff is based on PCMCIAutils, and loads firmware w/o pcmcia-cs. Some info
on how this change impacts PCMCIA devices such as serial modems can be found
at: http://kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/pcmcia/pcmcia.html. PCMCIA
modems cards based on the USB paradigm seem to work with existing voyage
kernel.

Subject: [Voyage-linux] pcmcia modem module not in voyage kernel
Recommended voyage to a friend who wants to run his pcmcia modem on it.
It needs the serial_cs module, which didn't seem to be in the voyage
kernel. I have made him a kernel package with it in, and waiting to
hear back from him that it works. I just thought you might like to know
that this option is useful to some people. The kernel config setting is:
SERIAL_8250_CS
I set it to m for module.
Cheers.
