I see what you mean.

voyage-base.etch.tar.gz is just a bootstrapped version of etch, it is not voyage and is not ready to use.

An experimental kernel with serial_cs module can be found in http://alpha.voyage.hk/contrib/punkytse/test-kernel/

I see a link on the download area new today for http://www.voyage.hk/download/voyage-base/voyage-base.etch.tar.gz. Can't wait to play around with this fellow a bit. Does this guy come with a kernel with a serial_cs module already built in a module? Do you think he will be making it happen with udev as well?

Is moving this to "etch" a major task? Sure kicked me around a little.

Subject: Re: [Voyage-linux] pcmcia modem module not in voyage kernel

Hi all,

I also noticed that pcmcia-cs was depreciated before 0.2 is released. For newer 2.6 kernel, a new pcmcia util is needed. I think I would need to move to Debian testing (etch) to minimize work on backporting the packages. This will automatically add udev support as well.

I would be very interested to hear on it comes out for your friend. I
tried
for some time to do a kernel rebuild to get an Aircard 750 PCMCIA modem running, and did not have a great deal of luck (at least not yet). Part
of
the issue was serial_cs, but there are some other items regarding PCMCIA
devices that changed (broke?) around 2.6.13, and remain somewhat
problematic, from what I can tell, with certain serial PCMCIA modem cards, since the pcmcia-cs package is depreciated. Mostly they seem to related
to
the firmware auto-loading toolset changing, from what I could tell. The
new
stuff is based on PCMCIAutils, and loads firmware w/o pcmcia-cs. Some
info
on how this change impacts PCMCIA devices such as serial modems can be
found
at: http://kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/pcmcia/pcmcia.html. PCMCIA modems cards based on the USB paradigm seem to work with existing voyage
kernel.

Subject: [Voyage-linux] pcmcia modem module not in voyage kernel

Recommended voyage to a friend who wants to run his pcmcia modem on it.
It needs the serial_cs module, which didn't seem to be in the voyage
kernel. I have made him a kernel package with it in, and waiting to
hear back from him that it works. I just thought you might like to know that this option is useful to some people. The kernel config setting is:

SERIAL_8250_CS

I set it to m for module.

Cheers.
