---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Legislative alert system for state From: Eileen Menton <emen...@gmail.com> Date: Sat, 16 Aug 2014 10:31:17 -0400 X-Message-Number: 1 Dear fellow AAUW webmasters AAUW in Maryland is interested in improving the way we distribute information and action alerts during the 90 day state legislative session (Jan - April). Currently a message goes out to each branch and they are asked to distribute it. It's not working for a variety of reasons - most importantly the need for quick turn-around. Do you have any recommendations? Send it to everybody that lives in Maryland, branch or national member. It is possible to import a list of names in CSV file into Mailchimp. Have you heard about that? MailChimp is a possibility -- but do read their terms and conditions. [AAUW NC interpreted it to mean that we couldn't just add all the members in NC to the MailChimp list -- we might have been too conservative and it never did become a good way to reach a broad group of members.] AAUW NC is using two lists: pp-i...@aauwnc.org (restricted to members; for public policy discussions -- e.g. "What position should we take on this particular bill?", "Does this particular vote warrant an alert? If so who will write it?" and some particularly important information forwarded from our allies. pp-ale...@aauwnc.org - open to the public; messages go out when there is a specific action to request. Only members of pp-info are authorized to post messages to the list. We were hoping to convert pp-alerts to Salsa this summer -- but this session of the legislature has been fast and furious and those who would have written alerts have had other priorities, so our plan is to find a way to get that underway before the session starts again in January. -Nancy PS: pp-alerts and pp-info are Mailman lists running on the aauwnc.org server at Dreamhost. But google groups would work fine, too. -- Nancy Shoemaker 919-662-0538 (W), 919-819-2598 (cell) On Sat, Aug 16, 2014 at 10:47 AM, Ann MacKay <ann.mac...@gmail.com> wrote: > If there are less then 2000 emails a month, use the free MailChimp.
