I doubt YouTube would allow that. Such video (even with UI provided by
browser) lacks features that YouTube probably would require: branding
and link to their website.

Who wants to strip this stuff, always will.
However, the possibility to do <img src="http://flickr.com/..."> doesn't
put photo hosting services out of business. BTW, referrer checking would
work for <video> as well as it works for <img>.
