I still feel this is complicated and only hope it is not the model installers will use (I never used the basic WixUI_Minimal for the same reason). I took a look at the VS 11 install and was equally unimpressed -- maybe I am just being a luddite.

I am disappointed that the old WiX UIs won't be present they helped create a consistent and tidy approach to installs. To me installs should look the same as the OS and conform to a standard -- that won't happen until the installer is part of the OS but at least most installs adopt the Wizard approach so users are not surprised by something different.

I guess I am on my own and will have to write on myself.

FWIW Apple still seem to like using wizard style applications for installing applications. For example XCode - http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2010/02/installing-xcode.html .
At some point I'm sure there will be a BA with a feature tree page.
