Hi! I´ve been running XFree86 4.5.0 on my Linux system since it was
first release without problems. I replaced an old Nec XE17 monitor with
a Dell E771a this morning and I can no longer get X to start in
[EMAIL PROTECTED] resolution. It will crank up to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (I
believe) max.

I tried running "X -autoconfig" from the command line but I got an error
about not being able to access a framebuffer mode. No biggie, so I ran
xf86config and configured the settings for the new monitor that way.

Attached are my current XF86Config and XFree86.0.log files.

How can I get the resolution back up to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Here are the specs on the Dell monitor:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/j51jk/en/specs.htm

I did see some entries in XFree86.0.log file which indicated the monitor
reported 1024x768 as the ¨preferred¨ resolution and that´s what XFree86
went with.

... then insert the following in the device or monitor (your choice) section of your XF86Config ...

        Option "UsePreferredMode" "No"

Marc.
