I can't speak for the rest of the gxmame developers but I don't have the time right now to fix it. If you want to see this fixed ASAP, send us patches. If you are gonna use an xml library please use libxml2 which is used by gtk anyway. Give us a couple of weeks and it will be fixed (at least in CVS).
