I wish to relate two stories about the UK djs in question:
-Dunno bout Digweed in particular, however when Sasha first came to Detroit
way back when (circa 1994-95) NO ONE really knew who he was, he played
flatline, put-you-to-sleep music of no consequence, in other words, drop
needle...no reaction...to an empty 'house'.
-Much, much, much hype later....fast forward to WMC 1998 and the MTV beach
house party simulcast via their AMP show. Sasha preceeded Juan Atkins on
the turntables to again...an empty house of hype...no vibe...people sleeping
on the couches (literally...no lie) and asking when the food was gonna
arrive.
Juan took over and within a mere two hours the police were there to see why
there were so many cars blocking the street.... cameramen everywhere. I
barely 'squoze' myself outta dere in one piece.
Moral of the story: Great Hype versus Great Music??? We all know the
answer to that one.
THAT.... is the main reason we object to these cats coming to Detroit.
They're makin' 10-fold what we've been able to affect in this biz, strictly
on hype/marketing development/$$$-driven promotions behind them--and
therefore have become the POSTER CHILDREN of our musical arena.
In and of itself, that ain't a bad thing. Yeah, it's a free world, cool
they're getting their biz groove/swerve on, yeah
coolgroovycoolgrooovycool--but they need to get offa Detroit's jock and make
some funky music on the calibre of Juan Atkins in order to get my props or
to stop me from being their musical nemesis. Why????
They represent the PERFECT microcosm of the macrocosmic economic argument of
black musical innovators dying poor or in relative obscurity or both (for
various reasons, sometimes self-inflicted...we know) due to the white
imitators being blessed with ALL of what should have been THEIR
opportunities.
If ANYONE can answer or explain THAT anomalie to me, well then this thread
will have been well worth its weight in time and bandwidth and this list
just for fluff and promotion. The only answer i can figger is that VERY few
black artists slip pass the radar (Michael Jackson, "damn...the next thing
you know black and white folks'll be sleeping together...." ) of the white
machinery consistently spittin out heroes of slight redeeming quality---in
their own image.
They got dat routine down to a fine art and if they (uh-oh...dere's dat Nazi
word again...) coulda figgered out how to write all 'eck-niff' folks outta
their script---dey woulda done so save for the peeps who were/are NOT
COMPLETELY APATHETIC and made that global woe an impossibility.
Right now peeps are sensitive to the fact that the machine is specifically
attuned to Arabic/Mid-Eastern folks as the enemy....... Have you ever
wondered WHY there are ABSOLUTELY NO postiive Arabic/Mid-Eastern role
models/heroes (across the artistic board) EVER, EVER in American pop
culture????? C'mon, peeps use your headz!!!!!!!! This war is only
symptomatic of rampant and long-term propaganda. If you want to control a
country/its peeps.......control its culture (errrr, Carol Marvin??)
Dis shit IS of TANTAMOUNT importance--RIGHT NOW!! Propaganda IS the

As they COULD NOT create what Detroit was creating--they imitated at a far
less intellectual level and called it Trance. They STILL don't got it, they
STILL got to rip off or sample black artists that came before them and
flounce it up wif a candy coating------Why dey do dat??? Cuz we made it
coolgroovycool and they wanted their piece of the pie...cept they want it
all......they aren't coolgroovycoool at'all. These type Brit-fad faggots
act as though we are all STOOPID and inept, I know, as I've sat across the
bargaining table with them many times before. They start out all cool, but
eventually give no respect $$$.
Moby is one of the KINGS OF DANCE according to the world and only because
he's white and has proximity perks to the industry in NYC. NO OTHER REASON.
It's certainly NOT because he is the shit. He's innovated NADA. He
created NADA. Neither have Sahsa or Digweed. Yeah, Moby had a coupla
okeydoke coolgroovycool tracky tracks and had the Detroit power trio on a
coupla his tours..(credibility politics) but he has been signed and dropped
by 3-4 MAJOR labels with little to no effort.
Why not Juan Atkins?? Blah, blah, blah... hear come your uneducated and
'skewed without the facts' retorts.... But Moby didn't break down a single
social or technological barrier.....Juan did (what?...a black man?) and has
YET to be signed to ONE major as a mainline, beaucoup marketing and
development $$ behind him, artist. Michael Jackson was the first black
artist to be played on M-TV. That was little under 20 years ago and ONLY
because Sony/Columbia threatened to withhold all their other artists videos
if they didn't play his shit.
You don't hafta be a reactionary, but certainly DO NOT criticize those of us
who have undertaken a mission to break those chains and garner the success
that we all rightly deserve that HAS BEEN PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN to come
with no stress, no hassle, and even less intelligence or talent--to the
white man.
While the fact that those cats are coming to Detroit is of little concern to
me.....your assinine and insensitive comments ARE. If you're merely a
consumer content with the latest DJ or thing coming to a club near you, then
don't speak to the business which you obviously know nothing about.
This list is chock full of pitbulls n' bitches, battle scar driven to
survive and you're travelling in well-pissed territories...puppy. My
comments here are war-won and earned by the ardent need and struggle to
survive. I AM 313 and will remain so loooooong after Motor or Clear Channel
/ SFX / Ritual Productions / Motor productions (who BOUGHT OUT S&D'S ENTIRE
TOUR) have moved on to the next flavor--like the locust swarm that they are.
They actively lowest common denominator market and are within the walls of
our citadel looking to consume the life out of our market and brand our
music to the latest corporate behemoth trying to move their hemorrhoid
cream. Every record sale that they make, every new fan they develop as a
result of shit like this....will be one less score for us AND good music,
you clod.
It's called competition!! We've got bills to pay via our music and
business.
The fact that this past year brought many a sonic warrior in this city
nearly to their knees (they won't admit it....but i will for them) makes
this subject doubly intense. Amir Daiza of Clear Channel /SFX / Ritual
Productions/ Motor Productions is intent on owning and controlling every new
music genre/taste in every major market in America and is directing it from
his vulture perch in Royal Oak. It is a fact that Amir has had a 3 year
contract to book talent for the DEMF(u tell me what that's about??). He
owns, St. Andy's, Clutch Cargo's and now the State Theatre and controls
every other major venue in this market except Cobo and the Joe
Perhaps you have no payroll, rent or mortgage or expensive ass phone bills
to pay, but WE do. Every time a Sasha Digweed kinda dude is peaking
somewhere, you can bess believe there are many underground cats goin down a
peg or two. Every time they chart, we get bumped down a peg or two.
Don't anyone try to tell me that what happened at last year's feeding frenzy
of a DEMF didn't matter, cuz we lost market share to the great white sharks
that were circling/marketing and promoting with far bigger budgets than
ours. Ford Motor Co. bounced offa us like a trampoline and onto the tour
that made Moby King in america. Not Juan Atkins. Is Ford Focus Detroit
Techno?? Moby made millions, Juan didn't break 5 figures.
Our only strength IS our music, which we still can't get played on the radio
stations that Clear Channel/SFX/Ritual/Motor ...etc. has a massive monopoly
on, but are Top-40 overseas....don't you get it yet??? Clear Channel now
owns over 2000 radio stations coast to coast. That's a lot of
minds/appetites to control.
While music Knows no color/sex....the machine controlling its expression
ABSOLUTELY DOES with specific and selfish purpose. He (not she) who
controls the radio/tv stations controls the propaganda machine--STEALS
ELECTIONS and becomes the most powerful man in the world.
This list IS the INTELLECTUAL and artistic anti-thesis of that machine. Our
rhetoric is impeccable--grounded and educated from a global
perspective...cuz we travel and sell records DIRECTLY almost everywhere on
this planet. We fully grasp every subtlety and nuance of this
argument--because it DIRECTLY affects us in the trenches where most battles
are won/lost. This is the new millenmium and STILL the revolution WILL NOT
BE TELEVISED.
This music is ABOUT A CAUSE associated with higher mindedness and is truly
struggling right now because the good ole white boy network has infiltrated.
If you don't grasp that yet, i'll recommend a few rave-lists for you to
enjoy where they are of like mind. Or perhaps you'd like to try this same
shite remarks on the Drum N'Bass Arena list--again mostly black music.
They're struggling to maintain their identity now as well up against the
Aphrodite's, MJ Cole's and various other white imitators garnering more
money while they trivialize the music. Musically...hell no, but
financially....struggling. Some folks on that list would HUNT YOU DOWN and
make us 313 snobs look domesticated.
And if/when you've dedicated YOUR life's work to the betterment of any one
thing....I mean 10, 15, 20 years worth....then you can trivialize it. DO
NOT attempt to 'police' this list---of any list on the net, cuz you will be
charred. Simple respect will do for now and if you can't do that, then just

damn, motor does it on a consistent basis. *most* other clubs out there
bring in major talent on a biweekly or monthly basis; motor does that shit
everyweekend.

IS a club, and that they do need to make money, and yes they are in it for
