With all due respect, wouldn't it be easier to see Lil' Kim somewhere else?
I guess I just have trouble seeing that people would travel something like
10,000 miles to see Lil' Kim @ DEMF, when the relationship between her and
the festival is tenuous at best. I could think of about 100 people who could
probably fill her festival shoes, more deservedly. I dunno if your
enthusiasm is because she's a woman (i don't mean this negatively - you just
seem to advocate for women often) or if you genuinely see some tie between
her and the festival, but for me I can think of a whole lot of other women
that fit better. How about Norma Jean Bell again, in a slot where more than
50 people will see her. Not that opening the fest isn't an honor of sorts,
but goddam, hundreds of thousands of people missed her brilliance last year.
