Ah, but they are nowadays! You might also say that Fritz Lang's
"Metropolis" is retro-futuristic these days - the art deco robots and so
forth - even though that wasn't the intention when it was first made. 

I look forward to the days when people are able to identify, say, the
Basic Channel records as having a "retro-futuristic" feel... :)
