This year I'll be staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Washington and
Lafayette (used to be the Best Western). They have rooms for $89/night right
now if you book online (http://www.holiday-inn.com). It seems to be the only
bigger hotel within walking distance that's under $100, excluding the
Ramada, but that place can be quite a disaster. The Holiday Inn also has
complimentary breakfast and an indoor pool!
I think Dennis already mentioned a couple motels in the area. All of the
major online discount sites (Travelocity, Expedia, Hotwire, etc.) seem to be
offering the three major hotels (Pontchartrain, RenCen Marriot, Courtyard
Marriot) for nothing lower that $120.
