Well, our experience last year at the Pontch wasn't that good. Too many
*really* inconsiderate people - you could just tell by the look on the
hotel staff faces that they hated us all. The people in the rooms next to
us got kicked out early by hotel security in the middle of the night which
made getting some sleep in the early morning a lot easier. The hallways get
trashed with used room service food and flyers all over the place.
Since they now are hosting parties on the 2nd floor terrace the place has
become a trash dump plus the music they play sucks @ss - the elevators
which already took a long time to arrive now take even longer, they run out
of their computer cables faster than I can type this sentence, parking in
the area if you drive or rent a car is sparse - don't park in a ramp
because they will most likely close for the weekend and you won't get your
car out and you'll be paying $40-50 for what is essentially the non-secure
storage of your vehicle.
There's more than this but I just can't think of it all right now - I don't
blame the hotel but rather those people who come to visit and don't think
twice about the people who actually are working that weekend to keep us all
happy customers.

The good things about the Pontch - breakfast buffet on Sunday morning can't
be beat - just don't fall asleep in your eggs, the views if you get a room
on the river side are fantastic, the proximity to the festival is great,
and when you get to hear the hotel security kick out a bunch of idiots with
two more days left to the festival you get to fall off the bed laughing and
then finally get some sleep.

Wow, I loved the Pontchartrain when I hit Detroit 3 years back, not only
was
the service excellent (Room service were always really quick and polite,
possibly down to the large tips we were throwing them though, the bar staff
were all friendly too), but we were able to pretty much run riot through
the
hotel for 4 days! I spent one crazy late night getting smashed in just
about
room on my floor, which was soley populated by DEMF goers, music blared out
some rooms and people partied, hung out, got wasted and passed out in the
corridors and everything. It was all quite messy, but Id definatly go back
if I ever do the festival again.
