Ah I think it's the whole pedestal thing that gets to me. A great producer/composer/song-writer, yeah maybe they deserve a pedestal. But really, people make too big a deal about DJs. It's a pretty democratic art form and if you buy great records and have a reasonable amount talent, you too can probably do just as well as most "big name" DJs. Now if they are pulling out unheard original material and remixes that is a slightly different aspect of things (bordering on production).
I no longer feel like seeing DJ's is that big of a deal, unless I know they will be playing something I absolutely couldn't be exposed to any other way. Or if I'm positive there will be a really interesting crowd and a great atmosphere (something that has been scarce these days). One aspect of this is that I DJ myslef, and there are so many great records out there now, I'm just as happy buying them and making my own mixes - or writing a new track that has what I want to hear in it! ~David ---------- Original Message ------------- Subject: Re: (313) Kevin Saunderson & Carl Craig last weekend in London Date: Thu, 6 May 2004 12:07:05 -0500 From: Matt MacQueen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "David Powers" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> On May 6, 2004, at 11:57 AM, David Powers wrote: > That being said, I don't want to hear Briteny Spears or Justin > Timberlake, personally. It's humanizing these stars.. DJing used to be the true democratization conduit between the crowd and the music... lately it's all this superstar power stuff that I think needs to be reeled back in to earth from time to time :) no harm intended, keep it lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek peace -- Matt MacQueen http://SonicSunset.com
