Ah I think it's the whole pedestal thing that gets to me. A great
producer/composer/song-writer, yeah maybe they deserve a pedestal. But really,
people make too big a deal about DJs. It's a pretty democratic art form and if
you buy great records and have a reasonable amount talent, you too can probably
do just as well as most "big name" DJs. Now if they are pulling out unheard
original material and remixes that is a slightly different aspect of things
(bordering on production).

I no longer feel like seeing DJ's is that big of a deal, unless I know they
will be playing something I absolutely couldn't be exposed to any other way.
Or if I'm positive there will be a really interesting crowd and a great
atmosphere (something that has been scarce these days).

One aspect of this is that I DJ myslef, and there are so many great records out
there now, I'm just as happy buying them and making my own mixes - or writing a
new track that has what I want to hear in it!

ahh personally i'm not all about dissin, just poking fun the way you
would laugh a bit about it over a beer with friends.. we all place
these DJs on impossibly high pedestals and the reality is they're just
people who make (usually) genius and (occasionally) bad musical
selections all the time. It's humanizing these stars.. DJing used to
be the true democratization conduit between the crowd and the music...
lately it's all this superstar power stuff that I think needs to be
reeled back in to earth from time to time :)

no harm intended, keep it lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek
peace
