[pedant]It's Mathew Jonson[/pedant] I'm only pointing this out because my brother is also a Mathew (without the 2nd T) and this can be v.tiresome apparently...
Anyway, back to him. Erm, I wouldn't go far as to say he's the man to rescue techno, but I think his records are v.v.good. They are a little bit like Robert Hood at his best - trepidation and uncertainty mixed with a thumping beat. Expect to see an interview with him on Bleep43 v.soon - Has anyone got a link to any mp3s of his live sets? The Cobblestone Jazz live set from Mutek 2003 was one of my favourite things last year. Really beautiful.. The 5th Element track is just divine. -----Original Message----- From: lisa [mailto: Sent: 26 July 2004 03:44 To: Phonopsia Cc: Derek Plaslaiko.; Subject: Re: (313) Matthew Johnson I'd like to throw in my 2 cents as someone completely away from the hype. When I saw MJ's live set at the Paxahau party I had no idea who he was. Had never heard of him. So it was all about the music and what I was seeing/experiencing. I had to ask someone in the crowd who he was. It was only after I returned home that I understood him to be someone "hot" or "happenin." But I'd already decided I'd buy a record by him as soon as I could, because I thought he was that good. As I said before, it was the best thing I saw at Movement. lisa Phonopsia wrote: > I could not agree more with all of Derek's rant.
