I've been asked for my 'book' -- "Do you have a book?" I didn't know what they were on about until I happened to be someplace where a Mobile DJ was playing Top 40, and apparently they keep a 3 ring binder with everything in their collection listed alphabetically, so you can browse through to find a song to request.
This was in someone's living room. Merrick Brown and Tristan Watkins played as well that night and there was a huge divide btw those who were there for music and those who were there for the keg. Unfortunately all the girls were there for the beer. Another time I was playing in between MCs at a hip hop show, and no one was paying attention so I dropped a couple of Dancemania tracks as a joke. Five girls from Chicago rushed to the stage to get their freak on. But I only had like 2 house records in my box, and when I put something downbeat on, they started yelling at me to play more house. I was sad as they were I didn't have a whole crate full of Relief and Dancemania to play for them!
