Has anyone ever used the nearest vertical fader on the mixer thinking it was
the turntable pitch control, moving it up in tiny increments thinking 'yeah
it's almost in', as the out of sync track gets louder and louder. More than
once in one night...

Most people aren't DJs and don't think like DJs.  All they really think
about is, "play something I know, whether it fits in or not."

1.  I was playing house and techno in a local lounge (Portland).  
The request was for the Beastie Boys.  That's not a bad idea though it was
the wrong time for it.

2.  Playing in the Oakland Coliseum parking lot after a Grateful Dead show
(we used to set up a sound system there and play one night of every
three-night run, lots of fun actually).  Same thing, I was playing some
house stuff and got a request for Primus . . . at least they were local to
the East Bay :)
