I totally agree.
But when i saw him doing his laptop thing, i could enjoy it as it was
a radio with a constant moving dial, because the object of the
samples he uses are in my musical taste range. Nothing beyond that.
In other hand, i think people like him, and hollertronix, mentioned
by Graham Preston in that article, serve to bend and cause surprise
on the idiotic narrow tasted kinda guy.
I dont' have a formed opinion on mashups. For me, as a DJ, it was
always fun to do it on turntables. Long mixes with acapellas over
beats or two entire tunes together. It's fun to do things like that
on software too, in my home, just messing around. But i admit it
can't go further than "i like this 'a' thing and this 'b' thing too".
