Getting the BIOS is not a challenge here (I have more connectivity than
I know what to do with), it is getting installed on a machine with no
DOS, Windows, floppy drive, or CD drive.  I have done it before but this
is getting outside the scope of this list.

One handy utility for tracking down the hardware you have is
dmidecode.

To get your BIOS version:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
ASUS M2A-VM HDMI ACPI BIOS Revision 0502

There are a ton of options in this program, so if you are a hardware
geek like me, there is a lot more to this program.

lshw is another great command for enumerating your hardware.
