Greetings,

I've moved on to testing some audio performance. First results are very
encouraging, especially with the on-board nVidia HDA chipset. I can get
latency to ~8 msecs with 0 xruns while playing demos in Hydrogen.
However, I've also built Ardour3 and will use the system for some tests
of that program. Further stress tests will include Csound 5.10 and the
AVSynthesis program, a combination that requires high-performance audio
and video subsystems.

Some bad news:

The mic input for the HDA produces only howling static, no matter if
the mixer is set to dock, external, or internal mic. IIRC there's a
switch for this chipset that alters the function on the hardware input
jack, I'll see what more I can find about it and of course welcome any &
all advice re: the HDA.

My UA25 can't seem to perform reliably with less than 23 msecs
latency. I've tried what I think has been every combination of numbers,
but it will produce an xrun stream instantly once I bring the settings
to a lower latency. I'm still researching this problem too.

The touchpad was problematic and required a fix in xorg.conf (I want
it off all the time).

The system's nv driver doesn't like my on-board GeForce 8200M.
Sometimes I got 800x600 but more frequently the video would default to
640x480 in vesa mode. After some tricky tricks I was able to install
nVidia's binary driver, which works fine and now gives me excellent
graphics on the machine (an HP G60-series notebook).

I'd really like to get better performance from the UA25, so if anyone is
using one with 64 Studio 3.0 please let me know what settings are
working best for you.

As always, vast thanks to the development team for this release. So far,
so good. :)

Best,

dp
