Alas, there is no loopback channel in the mixer. More research needed....

Thanks, Daniel, that seems to work a charm. I'm now at 8 msecs latency
with 0 xruns with these settings in Jack:
-R -n128 -r48000 -p3
Timeout is 1000, max ports is 128, priority is 70. Very nice now. :)
Btw, there was one other piece of bad news I forgot to report.
Apparently Hardy does the same thing as Intrepid when it comes to hal
polling. I had to run these commands to disable the polling every 2 seconds:
hal-disable-polling --device /dev/sdb
hal-disable-polling --device /dev/scd0
No more polling. If you see your hd light flashing every6 2 seconds,
check with htop and see if HAL is doing its thing.
