I can confirm this bug(?), I have the exact same problem here.
Maybe the problem exists only in the 32 bit version ("multimedia-686")
of the kernel package, and therefore you guys running 64 bit doesn't
get bitten by this.

Purging and reinstalling doesn't help, the package itself seems to
be broken.


(This is on a system that started it's life a long, long time ago as
a Demudi installation on a Intel PIII based system. Nowadays it is
running on a 64 bit AMD Athlon system, but I've been too busy to
reinstall to get the 64 bit version of 64Studio and therefore it's
still running 32 bit.)
