Hi Ross :)

the actual drive is a SATA hard disk and I need to repair an IDE hard
disk, so it doesn't matter, but I could disable or disconnect the SATA
and use a Live-CD to be safe not to damage the SATA. I don't think this
is necessary.

I wish to know if there really is only the partition table broken, if
so, I could recover it from a backuped MBR.

I exactly know how the drive was, resp. how it should be:

IDE_#1__ntfs_Size_20.00GB_no_Label______________Contains_Windows_XP_Pro_OS________Flag_boot
IDE_#5__ext3_Size_20.05GB_Label_ide_copy________Contains_Backups_from_my_SATA_HD
IDE_#6__ext3_Size__6.09GB_Label_studio32________Contains_64_Studio_2.1_Etch_32bit_/_and_/home
IDE_#7__swap_Size__2.05GB_no_Label______________Contains_Linux_Swap
IDE_#8__ext3_Size_16.03GB_Label_suse11.1rc______Contains_Suse_11.1_64bit_/
IDE_#9__ext2_Size_10.01GB_Label_suse11.1rc_home_Contains_Suse_11.1_/home
IDE_#10_ext3_Size__2.08GB_Label_unused_2________Empty

A Suse recovery tool, maybe testdisk, found 2 old partitions, but needed
to delete the existing partition.

I'm not able to backup the whole IDE, resp. I can ask a friend to borrow
me an USB hard disk, he has got this device for cases like that.

All important data is backuped to the SATA, anyhow it would be hard work
to reinstall what I still need, but isn't backuped.

Cheers,
Ralf
