You can do this with DHCP on both boxes as well. > I can now go one way which is all I need. > For future reference, check to see which IPs are actually bound to your network card use the following command: sudo /sbin/ip addr The second line usually provides a clue to which device it is talking about. eg. "link/ether" followed by a MAC address. If this were a firewire device it would be something like link/ieee1394" It should also be noted that you can have more than one IP address assigned to the same card. You can have a DHCP assigned IP as well as several static IPs, all bound to the same network adaptor. Even if you assign a static IP, you still need to first do a "sudo ifdown eth0" to disable the dhcp client, otherwise your computer will continue to make DHCP requests. Then a "sudo ifup eth0" should do the trick. I believe you can do all of this with the network manager applet, but since I don't use it I cannot really comment further. I personally disable the network manager as I am very comfortable with the traditional tools. My day job also pretty much requires features and configurations not supported by the network manager. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iEYEARECAAYFAkomnD0ACgkQwRXgH3rKGfOQ4wCfb8lTX8yjra+PY/b6sOooWzPG 61sAn2hzI/j1tcCpE91UBE8InunqPfJh =xFvd -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ 64studio-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.64studio.com/mailman/listinfo/64studio-users
