I've had backlights go out before. On a laptop like that, if you choose to repair it, I'd recommend Ebay. Just unscrew the top lid and remove the LCD. There will be a manufacturer and model number on there somewhere.
You can buy the entire LCD assembly on ebay (or sometimes the entire lid) for less than it costs to have it repaired (BELIEVE me). Laptop repair is a scam :( Waaaay too expensive. Buying the Lid is often the easiest as you don't need to completely disassemble yours and installation is easier. William Diehl I once had a vaio z505 series laptop with a dead backlight. It was protected under an American Express warranty protection plan. When I wrote them for instructions on how to proceed, they said to take it in for a repair estimate. The repair estimate was about $2000, almost double what the laptop was worth. So, I happily sent them this information and received a check for the value of my original purchase instead of having to repair the unit. And now I have my beloved Dell 300m. :) -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jeff Lasman Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 8:31 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [909linux] added alsaconf, now screen is black on Debian laptop On Monday 01 January 2007 09:44 pm, Roger E.
