I've looked for replacement bulbs for laptops before, though I never
bought them. If all you need is the florescent bulb backlight, they
are supposedly pretty easy to replace yourself afaik, no more than 30
minutes or so. The bulbs themselves are usually under $20 shipped.

I have disassembled one of my laptop screens to see how easy it would
be, and it was a cinch to figure out what went where. But then, it's
an ancient Toshiba Satellite, so maybe the tech's different now.

On the other hand, I'd be happy to do it for you for a mere $1500.
Save $500!!! :)
