May I suggest a more long term perspective?

I claim that Plan9 with kerTeX (that is finally starting to get the 
impetus) gives the best distributed OS for science related
publication in the academic world. Not to mention OS study by itself.

So the more Plan9 (or derived) is used---and the TeX framework is
instrumental for this---, the more attraction it will have; and,
by mere statistics, the more potential about students. And the more
