A lot of people are still connecting DUN, some areas of the UK still not
broadband enabled.
For some time, on DUN I have accessed the Windows Update page and let it tell
me
which patches etc I need for both Windows and Office. I have not installed
directly from that site for a couple of years, maybe more. If I remember
rightly, was not the Windows Update page attacked and virus or worm laden.
What I have done is to download to a folder on my desktop, online of course,
scan those downloads, and then install them, offline. To do this, against each
patch is something like more information which will take you to a technical
page
and a single download button. I have downloaded two or three at a time, but
that's about all it will allow.
Once installed, I keep a record of installation in another folder and those get
copied to CD because, as I mentioned earlier, disabling restore points will
uninstall any installed patches, or software and its useful to have a record by
date.
