If anything is wrong it's probably a bad sector on the hard drive. You should run can disk in "thorough" mode to confirm this. As for the cursor issue it sounds like a corrupted video driver. Go into safe mode and uninstall the driver and change it back to VGA. Go back into normal mode and reinstall the driver.
