System Restore is in Start, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. On
the left of that page is where you configure System Restore. You can turn it
off altogether for all drives or only some drives. You can also set the
amount of the drive/partition that is set aside for the restore cache. So
it's all up to you. If you have no installed programs on any but C: you can
turn off system monitoring on all but C: That's what I did. I have read tips
from some that say to turn it off on all drives. I have used it often enough
to keep it working on the C: drive. Even though I have other backup options.

I stand corrected, you can't delete earilier restore points. On my computer
I no longer see a bunch of automatic restore points. There's only one active
at a time right now.

See above, go to system restore, settings.

Maybe you are talking about the general XP cache, not the one for System
Restore. I have not played with that since I got XP. I have had no real
problems with XP except very rare lock ups. No crashes that lose data or
require anything but a reboot, and as I said, that is rare. You can see why
I have no good reason to switch to Linux or another OS other than to play
around with it.
