There are dozens of variations of Linux, all have
their particular following! I have tried Mandrake, Red
Hat, Xandros, Knoppix and always come back to Suse.
The latter is probably the most Windows like, is easy
to install (if you accept all the default settings)
and easy to use. It comes 'bundled' with 100's of
applications for most requirements but adding software
is not as easy as Windows but quite possible!
There are of course numerous Linux user groups and a
quick Google will produce masses of info but a good
start is www.linuxquestions.org
I use Suse 9.2 Professional but regular 9.2 is
available for just the cost of a blank CD or you could
download it as an ISO file and burn it to a CD. It's a
big download!! You can also run what is called a
'Live' CD where the software is not actually loaded
onto your hard drive but is a fully operational OS
albeit a little slow.
