2.  I'm using something called "Selective startup" which is supposed
to minimize the programs that are working when the PC is turned on.

3.  There are two hard drives:  c= 16, d = 24.  I barely use the d
drive.  Is there an easy way to tell how much space on each hard
drive?  When I do defrag on C, from the diagram I can see it is about
1/3 to 1/2 filled.  D hardly has anything on it.
