I still have Sygate fw, I suppose in the long term I might change it but most
fw's perform the same
function, most updates usually iron out bugs. In all the years I used Norton
fw it was never
updated, the only updates related to the AV aspect of Norton. I would stick
with Sygate because
Symantec will not be altering it in any way or change to Zone Alarm but I do
see good reports about
Kerio.

Being behind a router gives excellent protection from inbounds by hiding you,
however unless you
have it specifically configured it will not see unauthorised attempts to dial
out. The Windows fw
is reputed to be woefully inadequate in that it does not hide you completely
and does not intercept
any attempts to dial out and by design will probably allow anything remotely MS
to come in and go
out without notifying you.

I would suggest a system restore to the point prior to when you d/ll installed
Kerio to get you back
to being safe and sound behind the Sygate f/w.

I thought I found a "home user" free version of Kerio; I wouldnt even download
a time limited piece
of software.

had. I found it wanted to uninstall everything Sygate on my PC so I let it!
Like it or not whatever
version we have, its not going to be updated by Symantec now is it. I had this
problem with
downloads previously and I guess others might have too. Symantec is welcome to
it.
I'm behind a Router and now I have XP firewall enabled. I saw on the internet
reports that in these
circumstances XP firewall is adequate. I shall of course scan online from
time to time. With my
router alone I am stealthed and I know you are all going to tell me that my
software could be
sending out messages and I need a firewall, I understand that
All that said, what ever I did loused up my anti virus and I found I couldn't
update that and had to
repair it. Right now, XP keeps telling me it needs updating. Now is that
good?!
