Since several off topic mails have been generated since I posted and its my mail that is subject of off topic complaint, I don't see why I should not draw attention to the mail that apparently caused so much off topic discussion and bantering.
Here's the mail I wrote about which you Emile criticise for being off topic. Someone commented that a slow computer might be due to over heating, and also that the Maxtor hard drive that was installed was subject to known problems. You will see that my mail is not as badly off topic as those that were addressed to me by Rick and No. 6 since. This year I have had two Maxtor hard drives fail and both times, I remembered the PC slowing. I now have two Western Digital and am crossing my fingers. A technician at my preferred supplier suggested that Seagate also had bad press for a while. After that experience I'm probably listening to my PC too much, but that's the effect it has had on me. As an aside to this, I would like to ask a question. It is, do the plastic protective covers one can buy to protect the tower from dust cause over heating? Can they be used permanently in a dusty environment, say in a factory? End Quote The problem lies with off topic bashing that I have taken on the chin over the last few days, not just today. It's been happening a lot so far as my mails are concerned, where several decide to make off topic comment against my purpose. I dont appreciate it too much when someone complains either and I like people to be happy. On the subject of identity, I am not Vinny, I have never hidden behind another name in any group I have been subscribed to. Its just their way of creating off topic mails. I even rose to an off topic enquiry generated by Rick a few days ago when he asked where I lived; I don't know why, but I told him. In response I asked him where he lived, but you may have noted he didn't answer. I didn't press him on the point you will notice. If you're going to complain about one person, bear in mind other people's off topic content will you. May I also remind you and any other group member here who likes being subscribed that it is very clear that of the 1600+ members the majority of them are in the N. American time zones. There are not many of us in GMT time zones. Consider that a question asked in GMT could generate a continuity of interest for the benefit of the whole group. While computer related topics are being thrown into a mail I don't see a problem. We are all equal members here, but it does seem that there is starting to be a clique forming. You might consider checking the Yahoo Guidelines http://groups.yahoo.com/local/guidelines.html and although I appreciate there is a point about staying on topic, you will also note that the first of the guidelines are about harassment.
