Steve,

ETC

Leo Laprorte says that no anti-spyware program will find ALL spyware. AND
the ones that don't block it as opposed to finding it after the fact often
cannot remove it. He says you need more than one program and you need to set
it up so that it is running all the time to block the spyware. Unfortunately
the more things you have running all the time the more likely your computer
is to start slowing down.

I havn't provided any answers and I think the old addage, 'your milage may
vary' is still true. Each computer setup is different whether they are on
dialup, whether there is a firewall, hardware or software, whether they have
anitvirus software, etc. Peraonally I think that the differences among this
malware are becoming less and less easy to define or even less of
differences. People used to blame all their computer problems on viruses.
Now they blame them on spyare. My remedy, which may not be an option for
many of not most users is the reinstall everything every couple of months,
or even more often.

One way I do this is to use a program that clones my C: drive, and I locate
the clone on a different partition of my hard drive. Another more drastice
but also more effective method is to run my rescue disks which wipe the C:
drive and reinstall the OS and the applications so that the machine is back
the way it was when I bought the computer. That is more drastice because
then I have to uninstall the programs that I don't want, like Quicken, etc.
and setup my addressbook and my fovorites all over. I also have to reinstall
my own applications, like Partition Magic, Word Perforec Office, Corel Draw,
etc.
