Windows XP can be installed to any partition on your Hard drive, without reformatting, even if you already have files on that partition. If you had multiple Operating systems on a PC you might not be able to run programs that are on another partition BUT you can read DATA across OSs. This means that by installing a new XP to a Data Partition will allow you to read your data in an emergency. If the program that created the data is not functioning somewhere on the PC, you will need to re-install it into the OS that is working. Another good reason for creating a data partition. Improves your ability to recover data. If a PC fails to boot into one OS, chances are it will boot into the other. Another good reason to have a dual boot system. Hope this helps someone. Emile
