Harry & Others: Back to the issue of new programs on less than bleeding edge computers.

That is exactly the problem with advincing technology, too advanced and there's a limited market since not all can afford the latest hardware. I once had a file about the problem with 'legacy computers'. As far as I know no one has built a completely legacy free PC, one that is designed for performance rather than being compatable with old hardware. To build such a computer would be a monumental task. If only hardware lagacy could be ignored then the programmer would still have to enable the hardware to handle at least a few existing programs. Other kinds of electronics has solved the lagacy problem to some extent, TV sets for example. If a set has the hardware for standard VHF and UHF channels as well as the HD channels the the viewer can get benefits of both with a minimal of extra cost. DVD-Recorders are now sold with VHS players included. This will help in the transition to DVD only recording. I think however that computers will be lagacy dependent for quite some time. Unless that is some market were to be developed that could get around the cost of NOT being compatible with older programs. Jim ------------------------ Yahoo!
