Jan:  I have something similar.  The dark screen with the windows logo floating 
around is the standby.  I have that at the point of my signing in before my 
settings are opened.   I have XP Pro, but I wouldnt imagine Home is much 
difference there.   If you are wanting a screensaver, to keep your work secret 
you need to go to Control Panel and Display in the usual way, and make sure you 
select the sleep time to your requirement.

I have to admit, it is confusing.
