The fastest computer I ever had for word processing and databanks
was a 333mhz processor, 3.1 Windows, and a 40 meg HD. Now I have the
latest thing with 1.8 g processor, 100g HD, and it is much slower.

What price do we pay for the latest bells and whistles crammed down our
throat by computer marketers? Is it worth it?

Well you don't supply much information re OS and what other things are
happening and specifically
what you mean about typing disappearing. If it is that old I wouldn't bother
tinkering with it,
there are so many good cheap second hand computers that people are desperate to
get rid of just
because they have W98 and a 10gb hd, but these pc's will easily handle word
processing.

I was speaking to a director of a computer parts company a few weeks ago and he
had 50 computers he
couldn't give away so he had to dump them and pay a tax in the process.

Do a Google for Freecycle to see if there is a site/ scheme in your area, it is
similar to Ebay BUT
items offered are FREE and you might just find a computer.

My friend has an old old computer......her daughter wants to use it to type
papers for school and that's pretty much it. When the wordpad program is open
and you start to type, it disappears. The computer does a few other strange
things as well. Is there a way to restore the computer if you don't have the
discs???
