Ok, ok, the computer's memory :-D
Seriously. I'm using an e-machine, and running Windows XP Home. I
used to run multiple programs at once with ease, but lately it
doesn't take much to slow the computer down. The CPU spends a lot of
time at 100%, and sometimes I have problems getting programs to start.
For example, I currently have Eudora, Microsoft Outlook, Opera (which
may be the biggest memory hog, since I have a big bunch of windows
open in it ), Zone Alarm Pro, Norton, and Microsoft Windows. Right
now the CPU is at 19%, but earlier, when Opera was loading, I had to
end task Microsoft Word twice for nonresponsiveness. Both times my
cursor disappeared, which is new.
Windows says I do not need to defrag. Neither Adaware or Spybot have
found anything really drastic, nor has Zone Alarm Pro's spyware
scanner. I keep them and Norton as up to date as I can - Norton did
not find anything amiss last night after scanning my drives on its
weekly scan.
More and more often one program will bleed over onto the other
program - I will see part of my Windows background for a few moments
while Eudora loads, for example. I was told that was a memory problem.
Are there any ways or programs to check this for sure? It would be
nice to have something that checks, for the next time I become really
concerned.
