Describe how you tried to change your home page. Here's how I do it. I go to 
the home page, then in IE, I click Tools, Internet Options. The little 
window near the top usually has the URL of the current site. I then choose, 
just below that window, Use Current. Then I click OK at the bottom, that 
always works for me.
